Gay military boyfriend
Inaheartwarming sign of the post-" Don't Ask, Don't Tell" era, one gay marine was greeted with a romantic wedding proposal as he returned to San Diego's Camp Pendleton this week.
As San Diego LGBT Weekly is reporting, Cory Huston -- himself a Navy veteran once assigned to the Marines as a hospital corpsman -- dropped to one knee before asking U.S. Marine Avarice Guerrero, who was returning home from a drawn-out deployment, to marry him. It's believed to be the first proposal of marriage and engagement between two gay men, not to mention two war vets, on a U.S. military base, according to the publication.
"I was blown away," Guerrero gushed of his new fiancee. “I was shocked that after all we’d been through, he would honestly want to spend the rest of his life with someone like me.”
A nervous Huston told LGBT Weekly called his decision "a huge step" before Guerrero's arrival.

Gay Marine Proposes to Boyfriend at White House

U.S. Marine Corps Capt. Matthew Phelps made history Saturday at the home of his commander in chief.
The year-old active-duty officer proposed to his boyfriend, Ben Schock, 26, in the Grand Foyer of the White Dwelling at the end of a holiday tour.
It's believed to be the first time two gay men have gotten engaged inside the White House, and a first for an active-duty member of the U.S. military. A transgender man proposed to his partner in the East Room earlier this year.
"Our first date was to the White House, so I wanted to propose to him there," Phelps told ABC News. "When I got invited to the holiday tour - six months to the day that we had been there on our first date - it was way too much of a coincidence to pass up."
The moment, which Phelps described as a complete surprise to Schock, was captured on camera by fellow tour-goers. Some of the images have since gone viral online.

A photo of a Marine kissing his boyfriend upon returning home from a tour of duty is going viral with more than 15, likes and 3, comments on Facebook. The photo, which shows Marine Brandon Morgan locked in a romantic embrace with his boyfriend was initially posted on the Facebook page Gay Marines, where it was met with a great deal of enthusiasm.
"You made my day! Praise you for your service and congratulations on your love. This is what we've been fighting for," one commenter wrote
"I am glad that you are safe at home and with the person you love. Acknowledge you for your service to this great country of ours. Be happy and stay safe," wrote another
But not all responses were as supportive. One commenter called the photo "a damn shame," and another posted simply "yuck."
