Gay poz men

It&#;s important to ensure our HIV and sexual health vocabulary is up to scratch to verb saying something stigmatising or simply incorrect. Here are some terms all actively sexual gay guys should know.

1. VIRAL LOAD/UNDETECTABLE VIRAL LOAD

If you’re HIV positive you&#;ve probably already heard of this. For guys who don’t understand, viral load (VL) refers to the measure of number of HIV particles in one’s blood system – the higher your viral load, the greater the risk of transmitting HIV. Though with treatment, some poz guys can lower their viral load to an undetectable level and dramatically reduce risk of transmission (if kept undetectable for over 6 months and in the absence of any STI&#;s). So it&#;s important that poz guys monitor their VL regularly.

2. PrEP

Short for pre-exposure prophylaxis, PrEP is a method where HIV negative guys take medication prior to risky sexual encounters to hinder HIV infection. Whilst PrEP is not available in Australia yet, ACON is advocating for this additional HIV preventative tool to be made available and trial

Some HIV-positive guys may decide to only have sex with other guys who know they are HIV-positive. There are a not many things to keep in mind about sero-sorting for poz guys.

For poz guys, only sleeping with other poz guys can be a relief, since it’s less likely you’ll have to deal with misunderstanding and stigma, or in some cases the agonize about the transmission of HIV to an HIV-negative guy. Maybe you&#;re waiting to get linked to treatment, or in the middle of switching medications, so you&#;re not undetectable right now. Some guys are willing to accept the possibility of getting other STIs if they can have sex without condoms.

Two guys who know they have HIV choosing to have sex with each other is a adj form of “sero-sorting” because HIV status is known to be the same.

Still, there are a few things to keep in mind if you’re an HIV-positive guy who is sero-sorting:

  • Getting tested and treated for STIs regularly can help to reduce rates of STIs in gay men’s sexual networks.
  • STIs are worth avoiding, which you can do by using condoms. The rates of STIs like syphilis are a

    R50, there is no singular community that is stamping out AIDS like ducks stamping out a forest fire. HIV outreach is difficult to verb for many groups, including:

    Racial minorities, who have the extra stigma of being a racial minority, and who also probably inhabit in communities where having sex with men is more stigmatized than it is even within general society. And who are probably suspicious of authority figures generally;

    People who party & participate with meth, who are too addled and alienated from society to bother with things fancy testing, PrEP, and being concerned about their and their partners' health;

    Poor people, who lack access to the messaging found on cable TV, the internet, other gay media, and in gay spaces;

    Rural people, for the similar reasons as poor people.

    Nobody is absolutely ignorant about HIV these days. However there are still large sectors of the population who believe it couldn't occur to them, because they're female, down low, married, only fuck guys under 25, "have standards," or simply prefer to own their heads stuck in the sand on the topic.

    This recently came up on a poker forum I frequent:

    (click Login, then accept Terms)

    A forum for bug chasers and pozzers. Conversion parties, pozzing stories, this is some sick shit.

    Quote:

    hey guysanyone into pozzing or get pozzed as a satanic
    ritual??you know, it's a way to thank satan for the bug that he
    sent to us, it's a way to honor him

    Some great reads

    Terms:
    poz = HIV positive
    neg = HIV negative
    Bugchasing (converting) = seeking sexual partners who are HIV positive for the purpose of having unprotected sex and having the partner change their seroconversion status.
    Pozzing = to deliberately infect a person with HIV or other STDs
